What is now a sea of grass and sky, this area was once scattered with hopeful frontier families foraging westward in humble wagons. Located 25 miles northeast of Greeley, the grasslands are internationally known for birding, especially during migration. Enjoy spring wildflowers, abundant wildlife and nesting areas for birds of prey. Hike the 1.5 miles from the trailhead to the Pawnee Buttes, two massive rock formations that rise 300 feet above the prairie.
